Volunteer Registration Directions
Step 1: Register and/or Login to Your FIRST Account.
The FIRST website includes a Dashboard for team members, mentors, and volunteers. It includes a registration system for volunteers to participate in FIRST events. You will need to create a FIRST user account before registering as a volunteer.
To begin, head over to www.firstinspires.org/ways-to-help/volunteer/event-volunteers, then click on "Volunteer Registration" on the right. You will proceed to a login screen. Never volunteered before, or do not have children on a FIRST team? Please press "Sign Up" to create a FIRST account.
In the search bar, enter "Central Maine." You should see our qualifier event show up in the Search Results. Click on the Volunteer button to continue the registration process.
Some of you will need to add more demographic and contact information to your account. Despite only some fields being marked as required (*), it appears that all fields are required to continue on.
Under the "Strategic Alliance" section, check "Not applicable/No alliance."
When completed, press Next.
Some of you will see this section, which asks about more information pertaining to volunteering for the event, including T-shirt size (all volunteers get a T-shirt for the event), physical and dietary restrictions, and emergency contact information. When completed, press Next.
Here, you will select what day you will be volunteering on (there's really only one day, but you have to select it anyway), and then select up to 5 roles that you would like to volunteer in. Once selected, you can order them by preference on the right. You can also select "Assign Me as Needed." If you select this option, please be sure to contact Carol or Geoff to discuss where they can plug you in.
In the following section, you will enter whether you are affiliated with any FIRST LEGO League teams. If you are a parent or mentor with us already, you will need to enter the team number(s) that you are affiliated with. Otherwise, if you're working with us for the first time, leave this section blank.
At this point, your volunteer application with FIRST is complete. However, all adult volunteers must also complete a screening as part of FIRST's Youth Protection Policy (YPP), their commitment to the safety of all youth participating in their programs. At the bottom of the screen, click on "GO TO SCREENING PARTNER" to begin the process. The screening usually takes about 2 days, after which, if approved, the coordinators will be able to assign you a role, and your registration will be complete!
While part of the YPP screening process includes a request for financial support, this screening is at no cost for you and you do not need to pay anything at all.
